tvguide – To say Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) has been unlucky in love on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is to seriously understate the catastrophe that has been the girl’s love life the past five seasons. Her first love, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), turned out to be a Hydra agent, then her boyfriend Luke (Luke Mitchell) floated off into space and died to save the world from her ex-boyfriend who’d turned into an ancient, evil octopus — who kind of also felt a little bit like a love interest? It’s been a mess, y’all.

That all might change in Season 6 though, according to Chloe Bennet. A small group of reporters talked to the cast about this very topic on a recent visit to the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. set, where they’re already busy filming Season 7, and they had promising things to say.

“I think she’s getting there, I think that’s what it is,” Bennet said of Daisy’s readiness for a new foray into romance. “At the end of Season 3, [there was] so much loss, she was like, ‘I can’t be around anybody. I’ll hurt everybody. I’m going to leave.’ You really see her mature through her reactions to trauma throughout the whole series. This season, I wanted to make sure that the love interest wasn’t in reaction to anything… I think Season 6, we’re getting into that place, but I think as the Captain of the FitzSimmons ship, I think she’s focused on them.”

It’s true that as far as Daisy’s past goes, there’s always been some deep emotional trauma affecting her choices and her judgment. One would assume the loss of Coulson (Clark Gregg) would retrigger her go-to defense mechanism of going it alone, but in the year that’s passed since his death, she’s actually done the opposite and banded together with the small rescue team on a mission to find Fitz (Iain De Caestecker). Bennet isn’t lying when she said Daisy will be the so-called captain of that ship this year.

However, the fact that Daisy is apparently ready to consider romance again is interesting enough to make us consider who might catch her eye this year. The most obvious answer is, of course, Deke (Jeff Ward), who made his interest in Daisy pretty clear last season.

“We all know what Deke wants,” Bennet continued. “We know Deke wants it.”

Ward hinted that despite Daisy being locked in space with her dedicated rescue squad, she and Deke would be sharing quite a bit of time together this season. As to whether those scenes will take on a romantic nature? That’s anyone’s guess.

“They will definitely spend a bunch more time together, and their relationship continues to grow and evolve,” Ward said. “I hope something happens. Wouldn’t that be nice?”

It sure would be nice to see these two turn their chemistry into something substantial, but we’re not sure FitzSimmons would agree, since Deke is actually their future grandson. It might be a little weird for everyone involved, but we guess weird is always relative on this show!

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 premieres Friday, May 10 at 8/7c on ABC.

screenrant – Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Chloe Bennet – better known to Marvel fans as Quake – has explained how her character is different in the Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors animated movie. Ironically enough, Bennet describes the portrayal as “more like Skye,” the younger version of the character she plays in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors animated movie is one of the most exciting Marvel animated projects. It features a tremendous voice-cast, with Bennet playing Quake, her fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. actor Ming-Na Wen portraying the Kree villain Hala, Dove Cameron as the Ghost Spider, and Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 moved to a 9:00pm timeslot, and the series has rejoiced in a darker, more violent tone. There’s a marked difference between that and a child-friendly animated movie. Speaking at SDCC 2018, Chloe Bennet has explained just how the portrayals differ.

“She’s a little bit lighter. She’s the younger version of Daisy…it’s fun. She’s a little bit lighter and she has more of a sense of humor. She’s more like Skye, which is the character I actually auditioned for. It’s just really fun because I can do massive fight sequences and I don’t get one bruise or break a sweat. Actually I do [in the booth]… No broken bones. I didn’t get punched in the face.”

In Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, Quake and Patriot are dispatched by S.H.I.E.L.D. to bring in the fugitive Ghost Spider (better known to comic book readers as Spider-Gwen). Ghost Spider has been framed for an act of murder, and soon Quake is part of an unofficial team who are dedicated to proving her innocence.

In Bennet’s view, one of the film’s greatest strengths is that “it blurs the line between the protagonists and antagonists, and breaks down barriers.” She loves that the portrayal shows faults in the heroes, and elements of good in the villains:

“I don’t mean to get too political, but you kinda touched on this a little bit. It’s such a divisive world that we’re living in right now and I think that if everyone can kind of start to see themselves in other people and try to find the good in other people…or be like ‘Maybe that’s not the person’s that I thought they were…’ I think that this show really teaches that, in a really simple and stripped down way.”

Bennet’s comments will hardly come as a surprise to anybody who’s familiar with the character of Squirrel Girl. Although she’s one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes, Squirrel Girl is famous for her love of talking things out. She famously managed to persuade Galactus to spare the Earth by leading him to a planet full of nuts. Meanwhile, Kathreen Khavari – who voices Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Rising animation – has also pointed out the importance of her character, who typically explores themes of traditionalist faith in the context of social justice.

Bennet was particularly excited about the possibility some of the characters could make their way into live-action. Milana Vayntrub plays the part of Squirrel Girl in Marvel’s New Warriors, a live-action series that was originally intended to air on Freeform. The show was pulled from Freeform in November last year, and as a result Squirrel Girl is yet to make her live-action debut. Vayntrub, for her part, suggested she’d absolutely love to appear in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 7.

tvline – Things got a bit hairy when TVLine invited Chloe Bennet to talk about Season 6 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which just started filming but won’t premiere until next summer.
Bennet stopped by TVLine’s Comic-Con video suite with Marvel Rising co-star Kamil McFadden to talk about their animated incarnations of a young Quake and Patriot. In the upcoming Disney XD project, teenage Quake is “more spunky,” Bennet says, offering a fun “hybrid” of the Skye/Daisy/Quakes we have come to know over the years on S.H.I.E.L.D.

McFadden in turn let us in on where Patriot stands in comparison to the version Jason O’Mara, a grown Irishman, played on S.H.I.E.L.D. As a teen, does he have the same juiced-up powers?

At the 4:00 mark, we then get to talking about the latest S.H.I.E.L.D. finale and the multiple bombshells it dropped. Which scene was “really, really hard” for Bennet to get through, leaving her with eyes swollen from crying? And will the new season quickly resolve fans’ many burning questions? Press play above to find out, and get at least one definitive reveal about Season 6.
