SHIELD has many more foes than friends as Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns with its Season 3 premiere, and it’s not going to take long for them to come to the forefront. As the ABC series revs up the new season, I caught up with star Chloe Bennet to discuss some of the big moments from “Laws of Nature” and get some intel on whats ahead.

If the stinger at the end of the Season 3 premiere wasn’t proof enough, Bennet confirmed that Agents of SHIELD isn’t going to take too long revealing where Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) is. She also discussed how both the Inhumans and Hydra are going to be SHIELD’s biggest threat heading into this season, and Daisy Johnson’s current thoughts on Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). Just don’t think Bennet and Dalton are at odds in real life, because they’re actually neighbors.

IGN: You have a new suit and new hair this season. At what point when you’re getting into costume do you say, “OK, I’m Daisy now”?
Bennet: It’s definitely the outfit. It’s a really, really awesome outfit. Logistically it’s a horrible outfit to do any sort of physical activity in. In real life, I would never want to have that suit on. But it’s awesome. When I was a kid, I didn’t want to be a princess. I wanted to kick ass, and it’s crazy. It’s so weird that it’s funny that I am the awkward girl from Chicago that gets to play a superhero.

IGN: Season 3 Daisy is hugely different than Season 1 Skye. Have you gone back and revisited any of those Season 1 episodes recently?
Bennet: It’s incredibly different. Even [at the premiere screening], I was so proud to be a part of the show — not that I haven’t been before. People should not underestimate the team behind Agents of SHIELD because our crew and our cast and our executive producers on such an intense, cinematic level. The episode is huge, and the rest of the season is going to follow that lead. I actually don’t think we get nearly as much credit as we should — not even me, but the show in general. I think the characters are so dynamic and interesting, and the relationship between all the characters are ever-changing. To see so much growth for all main six of us — even for the people who are new — it’s really hard to do, and it’s really been awesome to be a part of.

I saw a clip or something of the pilot recently, and I was like, “I can’t even believe how different all of us first of all look, second of all have grown on and off screen.” I really feel like the Chloe that I was when I got cast is not who I am now. There’s definitely hints of me. I’ve grown a lot on the show. I feel very, very close to Skye and Daisy because I got thrown into this show at kind of a young age and being relatively naive to the business. She kind of got thrown into SHIELD being very naive to SHIELD, and we’ve grown so much together. It’s been really, really interesting to be a part of and to look back and be like, “Whoa. I’ve grown up the past three years on this show.”
