Vogue – The Shanghai International Film Festival is a showcase for the best in world cinema, though for Chloe Bennet the event took on a deeper meaning. As one of the stars of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Bennet is best known to American audiences as the gutsy superhero Quake, but long before her big break she was a teenager growing up in China’s biggest city. Originally Born in Chicago, Bennet moved to Shanghai at the age of 15 to pursue a career in entertainment. Bennet remembers the ups and downs of those formative years vividly. “I wanted to act, I wanted to sing, and man I ran around this city with so much excitement, confidence and hope of what I was going to do with my life and my career,” said the 27-year-old actress via email from Los Angeles. “I didn’t have my family with me, I didn’t have friends, I just had the dream of what could be.”

At the festival to represent her latest project Abominable, the DreamWorks animated drama about a young girl who reunites a yeti with its magical family, Bennet returned to the city in high spirits. The first Hollywood children’s film to have an Asian lead since Mulan in 1998, Abominable is set to break barriers when it’s released in September. Now on screen acting, singing, and giving kids a new heroine to look up to, she stepped onto the red carpet at Shanghai Grand Theatre in her glittering Vivienne Westwood gown with the heartwarming feeling that she’d come full circle. “Man, I’ve got to say, it’s been over a decade since I lived here, and every time I’m back the city makes me feel like that same little girl,” she said. “I love that feeling [and] I love this city.”

Andy Altig has been hanging about with Chloe and Co in Chicago and doing some blogs. And he just put up some news ones that have Chloe in them from the time she did the Chicago Cubs first pitch last week and one from the 4th July when they were all on a ship and a storm came in.

Great news for Chloe she is now up for a 2017 Advocacy Awards for her work with Community Empowerment. The award that is honoring TV actors and producers who go above and beyond to make a difference. She is one of nine honorees for the advovavy award along with Robert Herjavec, Seth Green, Regina King and more.

At chic new Hollywood hot spot Tao on September 16, TV Guide Magazine and The Creative Coalition will host the third annual Television Industry Advocacy Awards, honoring TV actors and producers who go above and beyond to make a difference.

The event—in a partnership with The Creative Coalition, a national nonprofit organization that brings together artists and entertainers to lend their voices to inform and influence the world—is being held with support from BBVA Compass, a top U.S. bank committed to creating opportunities for people to fulfill their dreams. “We’re celebrating those who have the unique platform of the entertainment industry and how they use it to change the world,” says Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition, which this year started a new program, #RightToBearArts, to ensure every child has art as part of their education.

Chloe Bennet Charity: Community Empowerment
When she was just 13 years old, Chloe Bennet volunteered at a medical clinic in the Dominican Republic thanks to her mom, Dr. Stephanie Crane, one of the founders of Community Empowerment. The organization runs the clinic and works with leaders there, as well as in Haiti and elsewhere, to provide health care and train local doctors and nurses. “I play a superhero on TV, but my mom is my superhero,” says Bennet, who battles baddies as Daisy “Skye” Johnson (aka Quake) on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Bennet helped out by sorting medicines and supplies, and she even attended at an emergency birth. She now raises money with crowd-funding campaigns. “The people there are my family,” she says.

Chloe has been very vocal about the current political climate and what they have been doing the last couple of weeks, So when she was doing promoting of Agents Of Shield on Monday she as well did a new video for Funny Or Die with Shailene Woodley, Cara Delevingne, Amber Heard, Susan Sarandon and lot’s more mocking U.S. President Donald Trump called The Alternative Constitution. The video go’s into saying Donald Trump believes he does not have to abide by the U.S. Constitution instead they explain Trump’s actions, like last week’s executive order banning people from seven predominantly Muslim states from entering the U.S, as being due to him following different rules laid down in an alternative document. Amber said “Here for example is the normal Constitution, ‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion’, however Trump’s alt-Constitution goes on to say, ‘but if a handsome, brave, scared president makes an executive order that favours one religion over another he shall only experience pure ecstasy.” Cara explains, “He’s working from the wrong Constitution and he doesn’t even know it.”. It’s a great little video to watch and you can do so below.

Saying that superhero television is different now than it was when we were kids, no matter how old you are, is a bit of an understatement. One of the benefits is the wealth of incredible female characters that have popped up — and in the Marvel universe, those characters have the opportunity to crossover from television to movies and even Netflix. In the spirit of Women’s History Month, here are which female Marvel heroes should be on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. according to Chloe Bennet, who plays Daisy — or Skye, if you’re not so good with change.

Bennet’s S.H.I.E.L.D. character, Daisy “Quake” Johnson, will be added to the Marvel’s Contest Of Champions mobile fighting game in the fall, an announcement that came in conjunction with their Women of Power celebration. Other characters joining the game include She-Hulk, X-23, and a personal favorite of mine, Kamala Khan. One of the thing that’s interesting about this is that it gives this iteration of Daisy Johnson the opportunity to interact with Marvel characters from the comic books, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the X-Men universe that couldn’t possibly make it onto the small screen for a variety of reasons.

“It’s a cool way to blend all the characters together,” Bennet says. “My favorite character is actually Jean Grey. The fact that I’ll never get to face off against her … is a bummer.” Though while it would definitely be interesting to see Daisy and Jean face off in a fight (or a friendship), there are plenty of Marvel ladies who could cameo on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in theory.

“I think Jessica Jones and Daisy Johnson would probably get on really well,” she says. “There’s this kind of rogue aspect about both of them. I think they would both gel well together. Jessica Jones and Daisy Johnson just Netflix-ing and chilling, you know?” Tonally, I absolutely agree. The private eye would be impressed with Daisy’s computer skills, that’s for sure. They could solve a lot of crimes together! Though I have to say, Daisy Johnson the S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent has come a long way since she was first discovered as Skye the hacktivist. She might be a little too corporate (or institutionalized) now for Jessica Jones — so yeah, maybe it’s best if they just have a casual hang.

Keep your fingers crossed for that one, because another one of Bennet’s wishes actually came true this season. “One of my favorite girls in the comic books was Yo-Yo Rodriguez, Slingshot, so when I found out that she was gonna get to be on the show I was so stoked. I think she’s just a cool character. I think Talia, who plays her, does so well. She’s so tough but so sweet, and they’re really bringing to the show her aspect of Faith and how much that plays a part in her life. It’s cool to see that on the show as well.”

We’ve barely met Yo-Yo, who was first introduced on the ABC series as Elena Rodriguez, so I definitely can’t wait to see what happens next with her. I think if there’s one thing you can count on with Marvel it’s that they’ll always be serving us plenty of new and exciting female characters. We will never be wanting for more with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Chloe Bennet is really stoked to have a video game character look just like her. But she really wants it to look like her.

The actress, who plays Quake/Agent Daisy Johnson on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, made sure that when Quake joined a video game like Marvel’s Contest of Champions, everything was, well, proportional.

“I actually kind of made a note that I wanted the boobs of my character to be not as big,” Bennet told USA TODAY in a recent phone interview. “Because they tend to in comics — I think the male artists get a little excited? And I just want young girls to know that you can be awesome and sexy without huge boobs. So I’m kind of excited to have that be some input to the game.”

This isn’t the first time that Bennet has had that particular note when it comes to her character taking on a life outside the TV show.

“I make that a note pretty often for our show,” she explained. “If they’re ever doing mockups I want to make sure that’s not what the focus is about and it’s about who the character is and her backstory and how well she can fight and how smart she is.”

The character is not making its debut in the game until this fall but the mock-up was revealed last week part of Marvel’s Women of Power initiative. And the cartoon Daisy Quake looks “awesome,” according to the actress.

What’s it like with a character in a video game that looks just like you, otherwise?

“I’m really stoked and excited. I’m very excited to get to fight and do stunts without getting injured. On set you definitely walk away with several bruises. So it will be fun to play the game and kind of be in the comfort of my own bed.”
