In the wake of losing two of their own, the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aren’t quite on the same page these days.

During Tuesday’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy (Chloe Bennet), Fitz (Iain de Caestecker) and Mack (Henry Simmons) were sent to investigate a radical anti-Inhuman group known as the Watchdogs, which was being headed up by former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Felix Blake (Titus Welliver).

In her anger over the Watchdogs targeting her people, Daisy went a bit rogue, using her powers to interrogate a Watchdog to track down their home base, which she planned to storm against Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) orders. In Daisy’s haste to take out the cell, Fitz was accidentally shot with a nitramene bomb that would cause him to implode. Fortunately, they were able to defuse the situation, but they learned too late that Gideon Malick (Powers Boothe) had been pulling the strings as a distraction to steal a missile.

Did Daisy go too far? Will Fitz’s near-death situation bring her back from the edge? EW sat down with Bennet to get the scoop:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Why do you think Daisy went so far during Tuesday’s episode?
CHLOE BENNET: When you’re a part of a group of people that have been repressed, and everyone around her is constantly having opinions on what these people should do and how they should behave, I can imagine that it gets pretty frustrating. She feels incredibly protective of Inhumans. She’s hit a point where she’s taking that frustration out.

It was a big turning point for Daisy. You really see the anger that has been building up. For a while now, she’s been feisty about it. You see her talking to Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) two episodes ago, and she’s like, “There’s no symposium on the human contagion.” She’s getting in these arguments with Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) about Inhumans and how it’s a birthright and it’s an awakening. She’s really full of a lot of pride for being an Inhuman. Me, as Chloe, can see she’s going off the tracks a little bit in terms of she’s a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, she’s an Inhuman, and she’s always an even-keeled split down the middle, and I think she’s coming off her hinges a little bit. She’s leaning toward the Inhuman side a little bit more.

This was actually the hardest episode for me to shoot up to that point. I didn’t know that it was going to get harder, but it did. They made it harder. I was definitely fighting, to be honest, the writers a little bit on this because I had a hard time going so far against — with Daisy, every time she got an order from Mack basically, she’s like, “Cool, I’m going to go do that.” I struggled with this episode a lot shooting it because Chloe was not happy with what Daisy was doing, if that makes any sense.

Is she going to continue making these decisions, or do you think causing Fitz to nearly implode may bring her back in line?
I would like for her to have maybe seen that as something where she would regret it, but I think she’s still going full-force ahead in the Inhuman pride direction.

How will Coulson feel about Daisy acting out?
It’s tough. I can’t explain it. I don’t want to give away anything, but things get very, very complicated in ways that are unbelievable coming up.

More so than causing someone to almost implode?
Oh yeah, and it’s all Daisy’s fault.

How does that mindset affect her as the leader of the Secret Warriors?
There are going to be some issues. There’s something that happens that kind of gets her out of it, but I don’t know what to say. It’s crazy though. It might be one of the crazier things that’s happened.

Recent episodes of “Marvel’s Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D.” have meant major changes for both Daisy Johnson and Grant Ward. Daisy — formerly known as Skye, now kind of known as Quake — is coming into her own both as an agent and as an Inhuman, with a new romance in her life and a sense of purpose that’s expected to lead her to forming her own band of Secret Warriors; Ward is… well, Ward’s dead, at the hand of Director Coulson, but the duplicitous agent’s body currently serves as the vessel bearing the malevolent otherworldly being known as Hive.

During a recent break in shooting on the set of the series, actors Chloe Bennet and Brett Dalton joined visiting press including CBR News to provide a glimpse into the current goings-on in their characters’ heads, including Daisy’s plans for the Secret Warriors and Ward’s goo-filled new reality.

On the consequences of Daisy and Lincoln hooking up:
Chloe Bennet: I think with any relationship, if you work together and you’re in a relationship, I think whether you’re an Inhuman or in S.H.I.E.L.D. or you’re [showrunners] Marissa [Tancharoen] and Jed [Whedon], I think there’s going to be problems just because you’re with each other all the time. And I think it gets a little bit bizarre because I’m more of the leader of the team. Women in the relationship are usually wearing the pants. I think Daisy probably wears the pants.
Overall, it’s probably a good thing. Being Inhuman and being a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, it’s not just work, it’s so personal because it’s her blood, it’s who she is. I think having him on the team helps her open her eyes to seeing other aspects because he’s been an Inhuman longer and he’s kind of not as sensitive to it or used to, maybe, the criticism and is able to handle it in a less emotional way, so I think maybe it helps her a little bit.

On whether Coulson told Daisy off-camera that he’d (seemingly) killed Ward:

Bennet: I actually don’t know that! Did it happen off-camera? I think it happened off-camera. I think word may have gotten out, but I don’t know if Daisy and Coulson have really had a conversation about it. That hasn’t played out yet on camera. I think it has gone without being said, a little bit. That’s how I have been playing it.

The battle lines are drawn in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the release date for Captain America: Civil War ticks closer, fans are going to have to choose: are they Team Captain America, or Team Iron Man?

That’s the question we put to the stars of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD during a recent group visit to the series’ set. Like all Marvel movies, showrunner Jed Whedon promises Civil War will have an impact on the ABC drama.

Team Cap
The answer is simple for Chloe Bennet: Team Cap. “Because she’s Inhuman,” Bennet explained of why she thinks Daisy would choose Steve Rogers. “We’ve had some tough, hard-hitting scenes about what does accepting people with powers or mutants or Inhumans, what does that mean? And we kind of equated it something of the LGBT community. … But at the same time, it brings in the debate over guns because these are also people who have very dangerous powers, and they can be dangerous, obviously. So it’s a really, really tricky situation and both sides have the right to their opinion, but it might not always be — one side doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right.”
